Nigerian midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has moved to douse fears over his arrival date to the camp of the Super Eagles in Faro,Portugal, stating that he will be in camp on January 5th 2013,two weeks before the commencement of the tournament in South Africa. Last week Chelsea’s interim manager, Rafael Benitez, stated his desire to keep both Mikel and Victor Moses beyond the stipulated time, and release them ten 10 days to the competition but Mikel who missed Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Everton, said he will be available in time for the national team, and also debunked fears that he is nursing a knee injury, which forced him out of the trip to Goodison Park. Speaking to Mtnfootball.com, Mikel also noted that he will arrive the camp, alongside club team mate Victor Moses.
“I have two more games to play for Chelsea before I will resume at the Nations Cup training camp in Faro, that would be the league game against QPR and the FA Cup against Southampton on January 5. I will leave for the camp immediately after the game together with Victor Moses,” Mikel said.
This will come as a welcome boost to coach Stephen Keshi, as he prepares his team for the tournament which kicks-offin 18 days time in South Africa.
